From Jet Lag to Long-Termism: On a Sensory Reset You Can Have Every Single Day
Dele
I nearly didn't make it through giving birth to my youngest daughter. It was a dangerous delivery — the kind of complication that shakes even the doctors in the room. For a long time afterward, my body and my mind were both in pieces. What pulled me back together wasn't some miracle treatment. It was my mother, spooning me back to health with the same herbal remedies she'd been making for our family my whole life.
In my family, yao shi tong yuan — the idea that food and herbs can support the body before something goes wrong — was never a wellness slogan. There's no shortcut with herbs. The only thing that actually works is consistency.
And then I spent the next eight years living about as far from "consistently" as a person can get. Beijing one day, Stockholm the next, Hong Kong the week after that — my days were an endless loop of crossing time zones, dry cabin air, high-stakes negotiations, and jet lag I could never quite shake.
That exhaustion settled into my bones. I remember waking up at three in the morning more times than I can count, in some completely unfamiliar hotel room, staring at the ceiling with my mind blank — for those few minutes, I genuinely didn't know what city I was in, and sometimes not even what continent. Nobody in those rooms knew that the woman running the meeting was still carrying an injury that had never really healed.
After a twelve-hour-plus long-haul flight, there was never any rest waiting for me. I'd land and walk straight into a boardroom, then straight into a dinner that night. Different time zone, different food, every single day — my body couldn't keep up. My stomach was always bloated, my skin grew duller by the month, and at night my mind wouldn't stop racing even though I was exhausted enough to collapse.
During those same years, I also fought to bring my two daughters home — three separate legal proceedings, with no lawyer, just me. Negotiations by day, court filings by lamplight in whatever hotel room I happened to be in that week.
That period taught me something I couldn't have learned any other way: when you live a life that never stops switching gears — and never stops fighting — the real luxury isn't another flight to somewhere new. It's actually getting to sleep. For a woman living under constant, high pressure, what she really needs is simple: the ability to genuinely unwind, in her own familiar way, no matter which city or time zone she wakes up in. It's the question I kept coming back to: what does real self-care actually look like?
Three Things That Never Left My Suitcase
To make it through that life, I slowly built myself a small ritual. Wherever I landed, three things were always in my bag.
The first was my mother's herbal tea. Made the way our family always made it, meant to settle my chronically stress-tight stomach, lift my mood, and ease the puffiness that came with long-haul flying. It never had that sharp, frowning-inducing valerian-and-lavender edge so many European wellness teas carry — just clean, natural notes of plant and berry, the way nature actually tastes.
In our family, this philosophy was simply what my mother did for years: adjusting herbal blends by season, by how each of us was feeling, quietly holding the line before any real trouble showed up. There's no shortcut with herbs. The only thing that actually works is consistency — one cup today does nothing you can feel, but a year, five years, ten years of it, and your body remembers. It's also why every botanical infusion we make today holds to the same standard: no additives, no artificial flavoring, only real dried fruit and whole botanicals.
The second was a set of heavyweight mulberry silk. Soft to the touch, but with a reassuring weight to it. Against my skin and hair, it felt like a curtain quietly drawn between me and a loud, demanding world. This silk flew with me through more cities than I can count, and it's the one of the three I was never willing to compromise on. Most silk marketed as "luxury" tops out at 19 to 22 momme. We hold the line at genuine 30 momme heavyweight mulberry silk — heavier, more durable, and worthy of being called an everyday investment rather than an occasional indulgence.
The third was a familiar botanical scent. Not to make a room smell nice, but to tell my body one specific thing: it's safe now, you can let your guard down. None of these three things were ever indulgences. They were the small refuge I built for myself during the hardest stretches — a place to return to at night, no matter how difficult the day had been.
There was never anything complicated about any of it. No elaborate ten-step routine, no expensive spa weekend I had to plan around. Just three familiar objects, repeated often enough that my nervous system learned to recognize them as a signal: wherever this hotel room is, it's time to rest now. That's really the entire idea behind long-termism as I understand it — not a dramatic once-a-year reset, but a small, ordinary ritual, repeated so consistently it becomes something your body reaches for on its own.
Where Eastern Wisdom Meets Nordic Long-Termism
I live in Sweden now. Watching Europe's growing obsession with sleep tourism and extravagantly priced wellness retreats, I've become more and more certain of one thing: real health was never about spending a fortune to "escape" once a year. It's built, slowly, in the ordinary mornings and evenings, through a fully immersive at-home ritual for all five senses.
That's the whole reason I started this brand — to bring together the Eastern wellness wisdom running through my blood and the Nordic instinct for nature, sustainability, and taking things slowly.
We use natural botanical ingredients — no synthetic fragrance, no refined sugar, nothing extraneous — packaged in biodegradable corn fiber. Our candles are hand-poured in a Swedish studio using southern Swedish rapeseed wax and beeswax, with no paraffin or soy wax, leaving nothing behind but a clean, warm light. Our silk is genuine OEKO-TEX® certified 30 momme heavyweight mulberry silk, partly hand-finished and edge-sewn by Swedish artisans.
None of this is here to make a better story. It's because I've always believed real quality lives in the details nobody else sees but you never stop caring about — whether that's the ingredients in a cup of tea or the weight of a piece of silk. It's also, honestly, a quieter form of sustainability: fewer things, made well enough to actually last, chosen with real intention rather than replaced every season. Buying less and buying better isn't a restriction to us — it's the whole point.
We Want to Make the Ritual Easy
I know that a lot of busy women, much like me, don't lack the knowledge of how to take care of themselves. What they lack is a way to actually keep doing it. Everyone knows the theory — but once life gets busy, who remembers to carve out ten minutes for themselves?
So we've tried to make that part simple. You don't need to source a clean herbal tea yourself, hunt down an additive-free candle brand, or learn to compare silk momme weights and certifications. We've already done that work. All that's left for you is ten minutes at the end of the day, and the willingness to actually use them.
That's also why we built a seasonal ritual subscription box — not to sell you one more thing, but to take the effort out of staying consistent. Each season, we deliver that season's herbal infusion and a hand-poured candle, along with one seasonal 30 momme silk piece, straight to your door. As a small thank-you to our subscribers, the season's silk and candle come at no extra charge — not a promotion, just our way of helping you build, one season at a time, a small collection of rituals that becomes a sanctuary genuinely your own.
We Actually Read Every Email
This is a small brand, but I care, personally, about everyone who reaches out. Every email that comes in, I read and answer myself — not a support template, just me.
If you've ever hesitated on the path to taking care of yourself naturally, or wanted to carve out a little space for yourself and never quite found the time, write to me. I'd like to hear it.
Welcome
This brand grew out of the road I've walked, and out of the care my mother gave me along the way.
Now I want to pass that forward — so that every busy woman reading this has one more reason to keep taking care of herself, the natural way.
If there's ever a night when you finish something exhausting, brew a warm cup of that same herbal tea, light a soft candle, and settle into silk soft enough to let your guard all the way down —
that's exactly why we made this.
Welcome to your own small sanctuary.
Sleep deeply. Wake up glowing from within — for every better, healthier version of you.
